Who we are
Ninth Square Zen (NSZ) is an affiliate of Village Zendo in New York City and practices within the broader lineage of the White Plum Asanga.
NSZ is made up of people of all cultures, colors, abilities, ages, identifications, and beliefs. We appreciate and explore our differences in order to build understanding, harmony, and openness within our hearts and our communities.
Alison Cunningham, who is a formal student at the Village Zendo in New York City, leads our morning practice. Alison has been engaged in Buddhist practice/study since the 1990s, first with Ven. Thupten Chodron, Abbess of Sravasti Abbey. In 2019, she completed the Mindfulness Meditation Facilitation Training Program at the Engaged Mindfulness Institute in MA. Most recently, Alison has been engaged in Zen Buddhism, studying with various teachers at the Village Zendo in New York City. In 2022, she received precepts from Enkyo Roshi, former Abbot of the Village Zendo.
We offer seating options of cushions and chairs. Practice involves seated meditation (zazen) and walking meditation (kinhin).
Practice is every Wednesday from 7:30 - 8:30am at the New Haven Pride Center at 50 Orange Street in New Haven, CT.
